Some Beach, Somewhere

How have I already been here for one month?

Time sure does fly. I was telling my family that I feel like time flies because I am always a day ahead. When I wake up on Tuesday morning, everyone else is still doing Monday. So it is this weird time lapse and I think it causes the days to feel so quick!

I had such a great week. I was started to feel really good! Not sick anymore. It just seems like my body has rejected Australia completely!! I am trying to stay up on vitamins and tons of water. Being sick sucks… but being sick in another country sucks even more! So I am not going to take my health for granted again!

Monday

The particular Monday morning was a bit tougher for me! It was Super bowl Sunday and my family was having a party at home and my best friend Amalia was going over to my house to hang out with my family. I facetimed them and felt a bit sad, but I was glad that I got to see everyone. I didn’t watch the super bowl because it was in the middle of the day here (17 hours ahead!). I did get to watch the half time show. Loved Katy Perry and Missy Elliot!!

Monday was also the first day of school for Maddison. So it was just Zoe and me all day long. She is so well behaved when it’s just her at home. We took a stroll to the park nearby and she played with some kiddos there! When we came back, I fed her and she took a great long nap. During her nap, I prepared dinner and did some other housework! That night I didn’t have any plans, so I got on my computer and began researching for my parent’s trip to Australia! I cannot believe they will be visiting in a little over a month!! I want to have a solid itinerary planned for them.

She loves her pram! Good workout too.

Tuesday

Tuesday morning, Zoe and I walked 1 mile to the library in Ivanhoe and 1 mile back. There was story time at the library and we were gonna check it out for the first time. My good friend Bek and Archie, her 3 year old little boy she watches, met us at the library to try out story time too! We went to a cafĂ© next door for a baby chino (milk with whipped cream). It was so nice to have some adult conversation to break up my day! Not to mention a great workout walking there and back… the hills here are booty killers! The kids weren’t too interested in story time, but at the end they got to do bubbles and that was quite a hit! Zoe and Archie got along really well, so hopefully we can all hang out again! Zoe and I walked home and I fed her lunch and put her down for a nap. I was going out that night so I laid down too so I was rested!

Tuesday evening I took the train and connected to the tram to St. Kilda to meet Morgan for dinner and a drink. I didn’t realize how much of a trek this was when we decided to meet. It took me over an huor to get there and the trams really confused me. But overall I think it was a good learning experience. Thank goodness for the PTV app – that helps me with the trains/trams. We met on Fitzroy Street, which is a really cool, young, fun, hipstery area. We met at a place called 29th Apartment. It was chill. We ordered drinks and a pizza. It was SO nice to be out and about on a week day night! After we finished our drinks we ran to the beach to take pictures of the sunset. It was freezing cold by the water, but so worth it to take cute pictures. Everywhere on Fitzroy Street was dead because it was so early. So Morgan and I made the decision to just head home. We got on the trams and I connected to my train and headed home. Jodie kindly picked me up at the station that night. I crashed out when we got home! A lot of effort for one weekday night, but still a good experience!

Wednesday

Zoe and I had a home day today! We played outside, inside, up and down! I was cooking a lamb roast and so I needed to be home.

I was excited for the day to be over because I was going to see a movie with Michael that night! Call my lame, but the idea of going to see a movie made me SOOOO excited! I am such a movie buff and since being in Australia I haven’t seen a movie in a theater! Tickets are way more expensive - $20 each. I took the train into the city and met Michael at Melbourne Central Station. Here there are tons of restaurants, bars, shops, and a movie theater. I don’t know if it was the few glasses of wine I had before… haha but the movie we saw was SO funny. We saw The Wedding Ringer with Kevin Hart. And I’ll say it again… it was so great being out on a weeknight. It can get old doing the same thing every single day and being at my place of work 24/7 so it is nice to be out! We had so much fun!!! And after the movie we walked around a bit, but since it was so late, we got on our trains and headed home.

Shortly after I got home, Jodie woke me up saying she was taking Zoe to the hospital. Zoe suffers from terrible asthma and she was having an attack. Everyone slept terrible this night.

Thursday

Zoe had a rough day… poor thing was so weezy. She napped all morning and so I napped then too because I had slept terribly as well. We went for a walk but it was clear she was not feeling good. So Jodie came home from work and took her back to the hospital for more breathing treatments. This day was just kind of a blur. I cooked chicken and veggies for dinner but I was in bed SO early. Just a blah day.

Friday

Friday morning, Jodie went to run some errands. Since Zoe had been sick, she wasn’t going to day care that day. I did some stuff around the house and then Zoe went down for nap. This gave me the chance to lay out by the pool! I am trying to work on my color, so hopefully laying out a bit each day will help! In the afternoon, Bek came to pick me up and we were going to dinner that night. We had some drinks at a place called Slow Beer and then made our way to Sporting Globe for dinner. We love going there on Friday nights because of the live music. It makes me feel like I am back in Austin. I might have teared up when the singer started playing “Mr. Jones” by The Counting Crows because I think of that as my dad and my song! We ate and drank a bit and talked! I wasn’t wanting to rage and go out and so this was the perfect night to just hang with the girls. Jodie ended up picking me up from dinner to go home! She is so sweet.

Saturday

I woke up with a throbbing ear pain. It was just about the most painful thing I have experienced in a long time. I am thinking it has to do with my sickness the last couple weeks. Ear, Nose, Throat, all related… possibly my sinus’s. So that started my Saturday off terribly. The Quick family woke up and got out of the door in early afternoon. This was Grandma’s birthday weekend and we were all going to be spending it at The Crown Hotel. I decided to let them go on without me and I would meet them there later via train. I spent the day laying around, laid by the pool, and then in the late afternoon I made my way downtown to Crown. It is a gorgeous hotel/casino with tons of shops, restaurants, etc! My duty this night was to babysit Zoe in the room while they went to dinner. She was SO sleepy that they actually put her to bed around 6pm when they left for dinner. She was sleeping in Matt and Jodie’s room in a pack and play and so I posted up in the other room in one of the beds. I would have one bed and then Madd and Blake would share the other bed. I ordered room service (delicious burger and fries) and ordered a movie On Demand. I watched Boyhood. It was interesting because some of it was filmed in Austin! And since it is up for so many awards I wanted to check it out. I even treated myself to a bath in the giant bathtub. I was asleep by 10pm. I think I needed a good nights sleep. I slept all the way until 8:15 the next morning!

Sunday

We woke up and began getting ready at the hotel. We were going to a nice breakfast down at one of the nice restaurants. It was a gorgeous buffet! I was stuffed. After breakfast, I took the tram to Albert Park to meet at Morgan’s house before the St. Kilda Festival! The St. Kilda Festival is an all day festival on the beach and on the streets surrounding. It is excuse for everyone to get together and drink and be merry! All our girlfriends met at Morgan’s house and we began drinking. I must say, I just love an excuse to day drink haha. I had SO much fun! We were just drinking, dancing, taking pictures with the selfie stick, and loving life. We took a cab to the festival and I was surprised how many people were at this festival! It was insane. We bar hopped and drank some yummy drinks. We also went to a little zumba party on the beach. Basically we just had so much fun! To wrap up the day we went to this bar called X-Base. It is a “backpacking bar” so the drinks are known to be cheaper. We saw Michael and his brother there. So it was fun to know someone amongst the crowd! Later into the evening we decided to head home. I was in bed by 10pm, I was so tired!
