Time flies when you're having fun!
Here is a breakdown of how my previous week went:
Monday
After a BIG weekend, I still felt like I was recovering on Monday. I don't even remember what I did that is how much of a blur it was! Zoe and I probably went to the park, played, she napped, I cooked... the end! Not too much on for that day. Monday's are usually my catch up day. I catch up with people from home, I catch up on laundry, and I catch up on sleep!
Tuesday
It was a gloomy rainy day! Normally Zoe and I would walk to the library and enjoy story time, but we spent the day playing inside. By the afternoon, the weather had cleared up and I had made plans to go to the "Moonlight Cinema" in the botanical gardens with my friend Tori. In the summer here, the botanical gardens puts on movie nights with a giant projector screen. You can bring snacks, drinks, bean bags, and blankets, and enjoy the movie under the stars! The movie we were going to see was The Theory of Everything. Since Eddie Redmayne had just won the Oscar for Best Actor, I was excited to see his performance. Jodie offered me to take the car for the evening and so it was really nice not to have to coordinate trains and trams and all of that stuff.
In the evening, I went to pick up Tori and then we went to the botanical gardens. We had some time to kill and so we ventured over to the Shrine of Remembrance. The Shrine of Remembrance was built as a memorial to the men and women of Victoria who served in World War I and is now a memorial to all Australians who have served in war. It was a gorgeous night and so we took the opportunity [of course] to take some pictures. Jodie had sent me with a bean bag chair and some blankets and as it got cooler into the evening, I was happy that I had those. Us attending the outdoor cinema was a cool idea in theory... but ended up to be kind of a fail. For starters, tickets were $19... At home you can go to the Gold Class Cinema for that. It was freezing cold, even with my blankets. We were sitting in the very back of the area and so we could barely hear. And the movie didnt even start until 9pm and so we were calculating how we wouldn't even be getting out of there until 11:30pm. As nannies, our normal bedtimes range from 8:30pm-10:30pm (LATEST!) Tori and I ended up leaving an hour into the movie... so I don't know what happens to Stephen Hawking!!! I really do want to see the rest of the movie. I dropped her off at home and I was in bed by 11:30... still a bit late for my liking haha!
Wednesday
Zoe and I dropped the kids off at school and then Jodie off at work. Then I took Zoe to Salt therapy. It is a nice quiet 45 minutes where she sits and plays and I just sit and watch her. I was beginning to feel a little stuffy, so I was glad to do the Salt therapy with Zoe and hopefully get some of that loosened up! After her appointment was over, we went over to the Doncaster shopping center, which is a nice mall. Jodie needed me to do a few errands within Doncaster and so Zoe and I spent the late morning running around the shops. Having the car and being able to do things like that makes the day go by so much quicker! When we were done at the shops, I rushed Zoe home to feed her and get her down for nap. Normally on WEdnedsays I like to have plans, that way it breaks up the week, but I didnt have any tonight. I retired fairly early to my room and watched a couple episodes of Parenthood on Netflix. I'm obsessed!
Thursday
Thursday was a busy day for Miss Zoe and me! I took the kids to school and Jodie to work and then Zoe and I started tackling our errands. We started at music class at 10am. For the past two weeks, Zoe has pretty much hated music. She dances and sings constantly at home, but for some reason when we get to her music class she turns into a hermit and clings to me the whole time. But this week she was completely different! She was participating and singing and doing everything the teacher asked her to do! Proud nanny moment. After music was over, we went to Northland Shopping Center (it looks like a mall). Here we had a list of things to do. Grocery shop, buy movie tickets, get Zoe a haircut, and grab some lunch. I power walked us all over the shopping center, knocking out our list of things to do. After a minor meltdown at the hair salon, I rewarded Zoe for her good behavior with some french fries. Parenting seems easy when bribes are involved - haha!
We raced home and I got her down for a nap. On Thursdays, Jodie's mother in law Cheryl picks up the kids from school. It is really helpful and the kids love her! When Cheryl is around she doesn't let me lift a finger. She is super mom and grandma. So I love having her around. She was feeding the kids dinner and spending the evening at our house because Jodie was going to Sydney for work that night. I ate dinner with the family and then I raced off to meet my girlfriends at one of our favorite places Sporting Globe to watch the Australian Football Game on TV! Collingwood vs. Hawthorne! I was meeting Bek, Amanda, and Maddison. Maddison's brother plays for Collingwood but he is injured right now, so he wasn't playing. Again, I felt SO cool because Jodie gave me the car for the night and so I got to drive myself there. I had already eaten dinner so it was just nice to visit with the girls. And when we were done eating, I drove two of them home, even though they only live around the corner!!! I got home after the kiddos were asleep and so I quickly turned in to bed!
Friday
Okay... I think I have officially completed the transformation into a grown adult. The highlight of my day was the amazing cleaning job I did on the house!
Since Jodie was out of town, I took all 3 kids to school and had the rest of the day to myself. I came home and immediately tackled the housework that needed to be done. I worked like a tornado on the floors and dishes. When that stuff was done, I came up to my bedroom and did my floors, bathroom, and all of my laundry! Are you proud yet mom? The funny thing was the amount of satisfaction I felt after all the cleaning was said and done. I felt so accomplished! I went to pick up the kids after school and we ran a couple errands. I took them home and we just hung out for the rest of the afternoon. I really like having the kids on my own because I feel like they really listen and connect with me. Matt brought home fish and chips for dinner for everyone. I retired to my room pretty early because I had an early morning! It was so nice to sleep in my nice clean sheets.
Saturday
My alarm went off at 6:30am and I hopped out of bed, grabbed my bags, and bolted to the train station. I was meeting the girls at the Southern Cross train station to catch another train that would take us to the beach. Bek and I sleepily greeted each other and ran to get some coffee before our train departed. Another one of our friends Rochelle met us on the train. A couple other girls that were heading to the beach with us unfortunately missed the first train, but were going to meet us there. It was about an hour long train ride and it was so nice to catch up with the girls! After we reached our destination we had to take two buses and then we were FINALLY at the beach. Point Lonsdale to be exact. Bek's host family graciously gave her the house for the weekend. It was so nice to just get away. I love what I am doing right now, but the fine line between working and living where you work can get difficult. So I always love getting away! Unfortunately when we got there, the weather wasn't nice enough to lay out or enjoy the beach, so we parked ourselves at a cafe and ate all of our sorrows away. The other girls who missed the bus met up with us at the cafe!
We spent the evening drinking wine, talking, and getting to know each other! We started throwing out different "conversation starters" and deep topics that got us all talking and got us all sharing our opinions about things. I must say, it is my first time to ever be around people who aren't the exact same as me. I have friends from all walks of life: childhood, teen years, college friends. But usually we were all the exact same when it came to personality and opinions. It is really interesting to get to know people from all types of backgrounds with all types of beliefs. I am loving getting to know my group of friends here. One of our other friends Amanda, who is Australian, drove to the beach house and met us in the evening. We talked and drank the night away and ended up turning off all the lights and turning the living room into our own nightclub with us as the DJs! It was nice to have a good old fashion girl's night. I fell fast asleep around 3am and hoped that I would sleep in LATE!
Sunday
After a good nights sleep we woke up and walked into town for brunch! I had a delicious meal of toast and poached eggs. We came up with the idea to drive 40 minutes to Bell's Beach, which is the most famous beach in the state of Victoria. This route we took was apart of the Great Ocean Road - a famous driving tour that I will be doing with my family in a couple weeks! When we arrived, I immediately realized why it was so famous. From the blue sky to the equally blue water to the giant rocks cover the beach... it was just beautiful. We spent a couple hours taking pictures and exploring. It was really worth the drive!!! We had lunch on the beach at a little cafe, where I ordered a steak sandwich. I wasn't expecting the giant meal I got, but lemme tell you... I was HAPPY!!!! It was so delicious. We drove back to Bek's beach house to clean and pack up. Because Amanda had a car, she drove us all back an hour and a half to the city. When I got home I felt this overwhelming feeling of exhaustion and quickly excused myself to bed.
Another great week in the books y'all.
I am looking forward to a great week ahead. It is Labor Day weekend and so the Quick's are heading out to the beach for the whole weekend. I am excited to have the house to myself Friday-Monday! And then to make things even better... the following week I will work Tuesday-Friday, and then my family will arrive 7am on Saturday morning! Then they are staying for 8 days and then it is basically April! Where does the time go?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Here are my pictures from the week:
